Frameworks
Camellia is built on a small number of core frameworks, which form the intellectual architecture of our teachings. These structures organize how tea is studied, practiced, and embodied. Each framework can be applied to tea, to humans, and to nature.
The Three Gates of Tea™
Most people enter tea through any of three distinct gates.
Some of us enter tea through science - Tea Scholars
Some through beauty - Tea Artists
Some through cultivation - Tea Ritualists
Each gate offers immense wisdom, carrying value and teachings that you will see throughout the tea world. However, each gate can be judged by the others:
Tea Scholars can be judged for soulless rigidity.
Tea Ritualists can be dismissed as too esoteric.
Tea Artists can be mistaken for hollow performance.
At Camellia, we aim for integration by respecting and learning from all three gates. We do not aim for mastery in all three, but fluency and understanding.
This framework helps us to understand tea as a living practice of integration between Mind, Body, and Spirit.
The Four Shaping Forces™
This framework helps us understand how the cup of tea in front of us (with its unique aromas, colors, characteristics, and qi) came to be. It explains the complex factors that make every tea experience unique. Most importantly, it parallels the human development journey.
